5 Home Remedies to Manage Migraines

While triggers are different for each individual, there are some general home remedies that can help you manage your pain when a migraine comes knocking at your doorstep.

Let’s look at some remedies that can help you manage migraine attacks better:

Medicinal properties of ginger
Ginger is known to be a medicinal herb and has been used as a home remedy for centuries now. Ginger root has anti-inflammatory properties that block out the prostaglandins which cause the pain during a migraine. You can use chopped ginger root in your food or you may also make ginger tea and consume it 2-3 times during the day.

Cabbage paste
Your simple kitchen ingredients are full of surprises. Cabbage has properties that reduce pain and swelling and can be used in the form of a paste to alleviate your migraine pain.

All you need to do is take some fresh cabbage leaves and crush them until it leaves out some juices. Then, take a clean muslin cloth and apply this crushed cabbage paste on the cloth. You can then place this on your forehead until the paste dries out, and repeat as needed.

Carrot and spinach juice
It is studied that magnesium deficiency can trigger migraine attacks, so having a diet rich in magnesium can help avoid migraines. Dark leafy vegetables have magnesium and sodium. This organic sodium rehydrates the body, unlike the sodium associated with table salt, and helps in relieving pain.

Carrot and ginger concoction
For this remedy, add 6 carrots in a grinder, 4 large kale leaves, 4 stalks of celery, and 1 thumb of ginger root. Then, add a little bit of water to grind it properly. Lastly, strain this juice in a glass and drink it when experiencing pain.

Lemon water
Lemon water has many health benefits. In addition to those, it even helps relieve headaches.

Add half a lemon in one glass of warm water and drink it through the day.

Another not-so-popular remedy involving lemons is a lemon peel paste. Take lemon peels and crush them together to make a paste. Spread this paste on your forehead and let it stay till it dries out. Wash it off using lukewarm water.

Herbal teas
Herbal teas have many health benefits and have been used as traditional medicines for centuries. There are some teas that are especially effective in alleviating migraine pain.

Chamomile tea is popular for its relaxing properties, which can come in handy during an attack. Sip on this tea 2-3 times a day to relieve yourself of the stress and anxiety that comes with migraines. Studies have also shown that chamomile contains a compound called chamazulene and parthenolide that have anti-inflammatory properties

In addition to that, you can also try peppermint tea or green tea.

Staying hydrated is one of the key remedies for a migraine attack, so make sure you are drinking enough water and juices. Since migraine attacks can make you feel lethargic and immobile, don’t overburden yourself with work. In fact, sleep in a completely dark room and rest until you feel better. With proper rest, hydration, and remedies you will be to fight the pain faster.
